Wild Rogue Open wraps up a weekend on the river

The third annual Wild Rogue Open wrapped up on September 28, marking another memorable weekend of disc golf, camping, and time on the Wild and Scenic Rogue River. This year’s temporary tournament layout was set at the incredible Quosatana Creek Campground, tucked halfway between Gold Beach and Agness.

The course wound through ancient Myrtlewood and Maple trees, open grassy meadows, and along the gravel bars of both the Rogue River and Quosatana Creek. Playing disc golf in such a dramatic setting is always a treat, and we’re deeply grateful to the Forest Service for allowing us to return for a third year in a row.

This year brought an extra layer of intensity with the nearby Moon Complex wildfire growing upriver near Agness. Smoke and ash made things uncertain on Friday and Saturday, but by Sunday, the coastal winds shifted just in time to clear the skies for a perfect final round. Organizers were relieved to hear that Agness and the surrounding area were ultimately spared, thanks to those changing winds, the hard work of firefighters, and the much-needed rains that arrived early the following week.

Playing under the red sun of a smoky sky was a powerful reminder of how wildfire impacts all of us—even along the coast. Despite the conditions, players came from across the region—from Fort Bragg, California to Portland, Oregon, and everywhere in between. Many camped right at Quosatana Creek for the full weekend, while others stayed in town at motels or rentals.

If you haven’t been to Quosatana Creek Campground, it’s one of the most beautiful spots in the Forest Service system. The campsites are spacious, with nearby trails for hiking and mountain biking, the Rogue River for fishing and paddling, and all the amenities of Gold Beach just 20 minutes downriver. Upriver, historic Agness offers its own mix of adventure where the Illinois and Rogue Rivers meet.

We hope to bring the Wild Rogue Open back in 2026 as one of Oregon’s most unique disc golf tournaments. If you love rivers, fishing, camping, trails, paddling, and of course, disc golf, keep an eye out for next year’s event on the Wild Rogue.
